The project, entitled Modifying Institutions by Developing the Gender Equality Plans (MINDtheGEPs), led by prof. dr hab. Ewa Łojkowska from the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology (MWB) UG and MUG, Chairperson of the Rector’s Committee for Social Responsibility of Science, received European Commission’s funding under the esteemed Horizon 2020 Program.
The project will be carried out at multiple University of Gdańsk faculties. In addition to MWB UG and MUG employees, mostly employees of the following units will be involved with implementing the project: International Centre for Cancer Vaccine Science - mgr Izabela Raszczyk, Faculty of Social Sciences - dr Magdalena Żadkowska and prof. UG, dr hab. Natasza Kossakowska-Berezecka, Faculty of Biology and Faculty of Economics. Università degli Studi di Torino (Italy) is the leader of the international consortium, apart from the University of Gdańsk the following institutions will also participate in research: National Research Council (Italy), Institute of Technology Tralee (Ireland), Jagiellonian University (Poland), School of Electrical Engineering-University of Belgrade (Serbia), Fundacion para la promocion de la Innovacion, Investigacion Y Desarrollo Tecnologico en la Industria de la Automocion de Galicia (Spain), Knowledge and Innovation (Italy), Uppsala University (Sweden), Elsevier (Netherlands).
The consortium received almost EUR 3 million overall in funding, of which EUR 200 000 is intended for the University of Gdańsk.
The main objective of the project, implemented under the Horizon 2020 Program, is to create UG Institution Action Plan (Gender Equality Plan) promoting gender equality in research and innovation. Promotion of gender equality is one of the priority policies of the EU implemented by European Commission through both Horizon 2020 Program and the European Research Area, in cooperation with Member States and research institutions.
The project actions are aimed at increasing the percentage of women in the university decision-making and managing bodies, appointing gender equality ombudsman, conducting open trainings for specific groups of employees and monitoring processes of admissions and research and administrative promotions in terms of equal opportunity. The funds received under the MINDtheGEPs Project should allow for supporting number of activities raising academic staff’s awareness on the implemented policy of equal opportunity for women and men, should also allow for creating action plan to accelerate structural changes, all while following inclusive approach.
