University Centre for Applied and Interdisciplinary Research is being established at UG

Prof. Krzysztof Bielawski has taken up the post of director of a newly established unit at the University of Gdańsk - the University Centre for Applied and Interdisciplinary Research.

The Rector of the University of Gdańsk, prof. Piotr Stepnowski presented information on the establishment of a new organisational unit within the University's structure at a meeting of the Senate.

'We are beginning the stage of developing the concept of the centre's activities, which will be based on close cooperation with the Technology Transfer Centre, the Centre for Analyses and Expertise and the Development Projects Office - units subordinate to the Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Development, dr hab. Sylwia Mrozowska, prof. UG,' - says prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Bielawski.

The University Centre for Applied and Interdisciplinary Research will bring together all-university, non-departmental organisational units whose activities go beyond the basic research of a single faculty and are financed from external sources, in particular from projects. The centre will include The Centre for East Asian Studies, the Gdańsk Centre for Biological Resources, the International Centre for Border Studies and the Memling Research Centre.

- 'The centre's task will be to take care of those projects which are of an applied, commercial nature, which are not projects of a basic research nature, but which have applications in various fields of business and the socio-economic environment,' - adds prof. Krzysztof Bielawski.
