Dr Barbara Kijewska from the Department of Public Policy and Administration at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Gdańsk has been appointed to the Gdańsk Equal Treatment Council for the second term. The Council is to deal with equality issues, counteracting discrimination and intolerance.
Dr Kijewska has a research background in equality policies, so she will be supporting the newly established council with her scientific knowledge.
- 'The main task of the council in this term will be substantive support and monitoring in the implementation of the recommendations of the Model for Equal Treatment, which the City of Gdańsk, as the first local government in Poland, adopted in 2018. This is an important document not only accentuating that Gdańsk is a city of equality, openness and solidarity - quoting the words of Paweł Adamowicz - but allowing when creating and implementing city policies, to make sure that the citizens' quality of life does not depend on their identity.' - says dr Barbara Kijewska from the Department of Public Policy and Administration, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Gdańsk, coordinator of the internship programme of the Centre for Sustainable Development UG.
As dr Kijewska stresses, the Equal Treatment Council is an advisory body, working on a social basis, and its effectiveness will depend on the prominence given to its activities by the Mayor of Gdańsk.
