Visiting professors - 3rd edition of the programme

The call for applications for the third instalment of the UG Visiting Professors Programme is now open. Meanwhile, as part of the two previous editions, 17 professors from, among others, Italy, the United States and even Lebanon will visit the University of Gdańsk by the end of 2022.

The main objective of the UG Visiting Professors Programme is to establish international contracts to support the development of academic disciplines, improve language skills and increase the degree of internationalisation of research work, which is an important element of education and development.

'The programme is part of building an academic environment based on openness and cultural sensitivity and developing multifaceted relations with foreign universities,' - emphasises Vice-Rector for International Cooperation dr hab. Anna Jurkowska- Zeidler, prof. UG.

The two previous editions were very popular among researchers at the University of Gdańsk. During the first edition, the Committee for Verification of Applications selected eight candidates from Hungary, Israel, France, Singapore, Slovakia, Germany, Italy and Slovenia, and during the second edition of the programme, as many as nine laureates were selected: from the USA, Malta, Lebanon, Italy and the UK. The visits of the seventeen esteemed academics will be completed by the end of 2022.

Students from the Faculty of Economics were able to listen to a lecture on Innovative market research by prof. Luis Alberto Casado Aranda, from the University of Granada. Other examples of the programme's implementation are optional subjects on 'How to prepare a master's thesis in economics' taught by prof. Karine Oganisyana, from the University of Riga.

A visiting professor is a position for which a person without Polish citizenship who holds a professorship at a foreign university may apply. Among the key criteria to be met by candidates are the prestige of the candidate's home university centre and the scientific reputation of the candidate. Interdisciplinary research topics, commitment and impact on the quality of education and research development are also important elements. To enter the competition, the visit supervisor must submit an application.

As part of the programme, international candidates can apply for funding for their stay. Thanks to the funds provided, the University of Gdańsk guarantees reimbursement of travel and accommodation costs, as well as remuneration for teaching and research work.

'In the previous two editions, we spent 300 thousand zlotys and the budget for the next year is similar,' - informs the Manager of the International Cooperation Office, mgr Dominika Brulińska, pointing out that the funding granted in previous years amounted to a comparable price.

The deadline for submission of the application is December 1, 2022, at 12.00.

We invite you to participate in the 3rd edition of the UG Visiting Professors Programme.
