Dr Agata Motyka-Pomagruk of the Research and Implementation Laboratory of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Gdańsk, and the Laboratory of Plant Protection and Biotechnology was honoured with the Prime Minister's Award for her doctoral dissertation.

The results of the research Genotypic and phenotypic characteristics of the Dickeya solani bacteria and the development of innovative methods of plant protection against plant pathogens by dr Agata Motyka-Pomagruk from the University of Gdańsk earned her the Prime Minister's Award. The author was awarded for offering better understanding and describing the full genetic pool of the Dickeya solani bacteria responsible for dangerous potato diseases. The research results are particularly useful for agriculture and farming and will find application in resistance breeding and contribute to reducing loss in potato production. The thesis was supervised by prof. dr hab. Ewa Łojkowska and prof. Alessio Mengoni from the University of Florence with dr Wojciech Śledź as the assistant supervisor.

This research project involved cooperation with the Department of Analytical Chemistry and Chemical Metallurgy of the Wrocław University of Technology.
