The NCN Council nominated prof. Ewa Łojkowska from the Interuniversity Faculty of Biotechnology UG and GUMed and prof. Barbara Lipińska from the Faculty of Biology UG to AcademiaNet - European Database of Outstanding Women Academic. The portal is operated by the Swiss National Science Foundation.

Outstanding women researchers are nominated to AcademiaNet by 43 partner scientific organisations according to strict selection criteria. The selection criteria include, among others, significant scientific qualifications and outstanding scientific and organisational achievements. It is not possible to apply to AcademiaNet directly, a nomination is required.

- I feel honoured by the acceptance of the NCN nomination by the Swiss National Science Foundation and I hope that soon there will be more women from UG on the AcademiaNet portal. I believe that the report "WOMEN IN UG - MANAGEMENT OF DIVERSITY AND GENDER EQUALITY IN THE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GDAŃSK" prepared by the Committee for the Implementation of the Policy of Social Responsibility of Science as well as the launching of the EU HORIZON2020 project at UG on February 1, 2021, The implementation of the EU HORIZON2020 project MINDtheGEPs - Modifying Institution by Developing Gender Equality Plans at UG will contribute to increasing the representation of women in administrative and scientific bodies managing our university. - says, prof. Ewa Łojkowska.

Women are still under-represented in leading positions in academic and scientific institutions. Only 21% of the highest-paid professorships in the European Union are held by women. AcademiaNet aims to create a database with profiles of women scientists from all scientific disciplines. Decision-makers can use this platform to find the best women in each discipline. The AcademiaNet platform should make it easier to select women experts for Scientific Committees and invite them to lecture and present at scientific conferences.

- I was nominated to AcademiaNet by the National Science Centre while serving as a member of the NCN Council in the 2018-2020 term, together with other ladies from the Council. I feel honoured by this nomination and to be among the international group of women of merit in science, admits prof. Barbara Lipińska.
