UG Sports Section for People with Disabilities established

Polish Integration Table Tennis Championships organised by AZS UG

Passion, sports competition, overcoming one's weaknesses and having fun - the University of Gdańsk Academic Sports Association invites students and employees with disabilities to join the newly established Sports Section for People with Disabilities.

The AZS UG Sports Section for People with Disabilities was established in response to the development of the AZS Polish Integration Championships, an initiative aimed at activating people with disabilities in the academic environment. - 'The Centre for Physical Education and Sport has for years been running rehabilitation classes for our students as part of the Physical Education course. By creating a section in the AZS Academic Club, we want to show that sports competition is also possible in this area. However, we must remember that it is not about medals, but about overcoming one's weaknesses. We want to get people with disabilities out of their homes and give them the opportunity for mutual integration and realisation of their sporting passions,' - says Małgorzata Aftańska, the section's guardian.

Last year the University of Gdańsk was the organiser of the Polish AZS Integrated Table Tennis Championships for the first time. - 'We want many of our students and employees to enjoy similar events,' - adds Małgorzata Aftańska.

The range of disciplines offered by the Sports Section for People with Disabilities is rich and growing all the time. The national competition is already taking place in such disciplines as swimming, badminton, boccia, bowling, shooting, chess, goalball, sailing, skiing and snowboarding. The section aims to reach as many people with disabilities as possible and to enable them to participate in the Polish Integration Championships and experience a great adventure.

The section is open to full-time and extramural students, PhD students and employees of the University of Gdańsk.
