Pomerania's three strongest universities have joined forces to form the Daniel Fahrenheit Universities Association in Gdańsk (FarU) in 2020. Its most important task is to identify and prepare to make the best use of the resources and potential of the Medical University of Gdańsk, the Technical University of Gdańsk and the University of Gdańsk in the scientific, research, teaching, organisational and development areas.
- 'Joint interdisciplinary research and initiatives successively implemented in synergistic areas provide a solid foundation for creating a recognisable academic centre in Gdańsk that can successfully compete with the best in Europe and worldwide,' - says prof. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska, Director of the Universities Association. - 'The formation of a larger, stronger academic centre may result in a wide teaching offer, effective administration and increased potential for change management. The integration of universities also enables closer cooperation with local authorities and the economic environment.'.
To familiarise not only the academic community with the idea of the Association, we have launched a website https://zwiazek-fahrenheita.edu.pl/pl and profiles in social media (Facebook https://www.facebook.com/FahrenheitUniversities/, Twitter https://twitter.com/FarUniv, YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyxvndd2uwryJGUwEnSNk6A), through which we will inform the community about current events, as well as present the objectives and main directions of common activities. The creation of the website is one of the stages of the project "Supporting university consolidation processes", implemented under the PO WER programme, co-financed by the European Social Fund. The leader of the media team, which was responsible for the works on the Association's website and social media profiles, is dr Joanna Śliwińska, the spokesperson of the Medical University of Gdańsk.
- 'This is the result of the joint, hard work of the PG, UG and GUMed teams, for which I would like to thank all the people involved. We are aware that not everything was implemented perfectly in such a short time, and we will continue to work on optimising the solutions,' - explains dr Joanna Śliwińska, Head of the Communication Section at the Medical University of Gdańsk. - 'I encourage you to visit the FarU website and social media profiles, as well as to send us comments and suggestions that will help us improve the service.'.
The FarU website contains, among other things, statutory documents, regulations for granting patronage and a logotype with the Logo Manual. We are successively supplementing the service with current events and initiatives undertaken within the framework of the Association of Universities. In the FAQ tab (https://zwiazek-fahrenheita.edu.pl/pl/faq) there is a collection of questions divided into 4 thematic blocks - GENERAL, SCIENCE, EDUCATION and ORGANISATION, which will allow you to better understand the idea, objectives and main activities.
ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION
The Daniel Fahrenheit Association of Universities in Gdańsk (FarU) was established at the joint request of the rectors of the Medical University of Gdańsk, the Technical University of Gdańsk and the University of Gdańsk. The Senates of the three universities passed appropriate resolutions and accepted the Statute of the Association, which defines the scope of tasks, bodies and management of the new organisation.
The most important task of the Association is to make the best possible use of the resources and potential of the three universities that form it. Its activities focus on developing solutions to support joint scientific research and development work, as well as recommendations concerning the consolidation or establishment of new interuniversity doctoral schools.
One of the strategic tasks of the Association is to conduct a common promotional and ranking policy, especially in the international arena, as well as to express opinions and represent common interests concerning state and local administration and legislative initiatives. The Association is also to strengthen the publishing activities of GUMed, PG and UG.
