Reducing the teaching workload in the new academic year 2022/2023 and naming the Theatre Hall in the building of Neophilology after Professor Jerzy Limon were some of the seventeen items discussed by the Senate of the University of Gdańsk today (31.03.2022).
After adopting the agenda, they were presented with information on the reduction of the teaching load in the academic year 2022/2023, which is an initiative of the Rector's Office UG. More on this topic.
Next, UG Senators expressed a positive opinion on the motions put forward by the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, dr hab. Urszula Patocka - Sigłowy, prof. UG, concerning the employment of dr hab. Artur Bracki and dr hab. Arkadiusz Misztal as university professors at the University of Gdańsk.
The Dean of the Faculty of Philology, prof. UG Urszula Patocka - Sigłowy also presented a motion to name the Theatre Hall in the Neophilology building of the University of Gdańsk after Professor Jerzy Limon. This would honour the memory of Professor Limon, who passed away last year, a long-time employee of our University and the author of outstanding works on the history and theory of theatre. This proposal was unanimously supported by the Convention of Honourable Members chaired by the Rector. Prof. Piotr Stepnowski appealed to the Senate to support the initiative, pointing to prof. Jerzy Limon's invaluable influence on the development of theatre studies, among other things. He also referred to the exhibitions, performances, film screenings and conferences planned together with the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre.

Afterwards, the members of the assembly approved the draft resolution of the UG Senate on the curricula of first-cycle, second-cycle and uniform master's degree studies for the educational cycles starting from the academic year 2022/2023 and the curricula of postgraduate studies. The curriculum of the Doctoral School in the Natural and Scientific Sciences of the University of Gdańsk was also established.
The next points concerned the establishment of curricula for postgraduate studies conducted at the University of Gdańsk: Resocialisation and Sociotherapy according to the standard of education preparing for the teaching profession; Early support of child development and family support; and Postgraduate In-Service Training for primary and secondary school teachers teaching students with diverse developmental and educational needs.
The Director of the UG Main Library mgr Grażyna Jaśkowiak presented a report on the activities of the UG Library in the previous year. She listed the most important points of activity, including developing the Library's tools and resources, supporting the UG academic community in the preparation for the evaluation of scientific achievements and grant applications, in particular, consulting the Data Management Plans, participation in the project 'Supporting university consolidation processes' conducted jointly by the Gdańsk Medical University, the Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk as part of the Fahrenheit Universities.
The Senate also took note of the information on donations that have increased the University's book collection.
The Vice-Rector for Innovation and Liaison with Business and the Community, prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Bielawski presented the Senate with a donation granted by the Orlen Foundation for research on the use of genistein in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease carried out by a team led by prof. dr hab. Grzegorz Węgrzyn. More about the research.
At the end of the meeting, the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education Quality, dr hab. Arnold Kłonczyński, prof. UG, presented information on the course of action concerning the quality of education at the University of Gdańsk in the academic year 2020/2021.
In the free motions, the Vice-Rector prof. UG Arnold Kłonczyński also reminded us about the safety recommendations related to covid. The Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, dr hab. Anna Jurkowska-Zeidler, prof. UG referred to issues concerning the education of refugees from Ukraine at UG, stressing that each application is considered individually, if only due to differences in curriculum and language.
