Database of COVID-19 co-infections - research project at the University of Gdańsk

Baza infekcji towarzyszących przy zakażeniach SARS-CoV-2  będzie cennym źródłem informacji zarówno dla służb odpowiedzialnych za bezpieczeństwo epidemiologiczne, jak i służb medycznych.

A project by Doctor Łukasz Rąbalski from the University of Gdańsk, SARS-CoV-2 co-infections. COVID-19 co-infections is financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education with an additional subsidy of PLN 985,000 for the University of Gdańsk.

Research conducted by Dr Łukasz Rąbalski (Department of Recombinant Vaccines of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and Medical University of Gdańsk) aims at determining the extent to which SARS-CoV-2 co-infections affect the clinical presentation of COVID-19 and developing the database of these infections. Researchers from the International Center for Cancer Vaccine Science (ICCVS) at the University of Gdańsk take part in creating the IT base.

As noted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education:

In the current epidemic situation, the database will be a valuable source of information on the incidence of co-infections and their impact on patients' health useful for the entities responsible for epidemiological safety and healthcare. In addition, the collected data can be used by physicians in their decision-making processes regarding treatment selection or establishing procedures.
