The University of Gdańsk’s marine potential was presented to the participants of the SEA-EU Governing Week by the Rector of the University of Gdańsk Prof. Piotr Stepnowski and Dr. hab. Waldemar Surosz, prof. UG, the Dean of the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography of the University of Gdańsk. On the last day of the event, the guests from ten universities of the seas learned about the potential of Oceanography and visited Prof. Krzysztof Skóra Hel Marine Station.

The SEA-EU’s representatives were taken from the Sopot’s pier by RV ‘Oceanograf’. During the cruise to Hel peninsula, staff members of the vessel talked about its equipment, cruises, and research possibilities. 

In the Prof. Krzysztof Skóra Hel Marine Station, the guests were welcomed by Dr. Iwona Pawliczka vel Pawlik, who invited everyone to observe the feeding of the seals. The staff members running the attraction talked about the grey seal’s habits and the actions of the Station taken toward the protection of the species. 

In the second part of the meeting, Prof. Waldemar Surosz gave the presentation titled ‘The marine face of the University of Gdańsk’. Except for the actions taken within the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography, he spoke about the engagement of the University of Gdańsk in offshore wind energy development and the initiative of the Research Centre for Marine Economy (Centrum Badań nad Gospodarką Morską). 

After the presentation, Prof. Piotr Stepnowski and Prof. Waldemar Surosz answered the SEA-EU representatives' questions about Prof. Krzysztof Skóra and the matter of how he was able to bring to life such an ambitious project.
