W ramach kolejnego spotkania z cyklu „Piątek na Historycznym” zapraszamy na wykład pt. „Death in Lusitania, the Westernmost Province of the Roman Empire”, który wygłosi dr Mónica Rolo z UNIARQ - Centre for Archaeology i University of Lisbon (Portugal).
Spotkanie poprowadzi dr hab. Karol Kłodziński z Zakładu Historii Starożytnej.
O wykładzie:
Attitudes towards death can define, to a large extent, the way one society lives. We propose a close look to funerary practices in the ancient province of Lusitania, the westernmost territory of the Roman Empire. Through the funerary archaeological record, we are able to describe rituals and beliefs that shaped the funus, but also to characterize the social landscape of this territory. The grave offerings, the funerary architecture and epigraphy help us to tell the story of the communities in Lusitania and, ultimately, highlight the idea that memory can be a transversal and timeless desideratum.
