Przedstawienie przenosi widzów do XV-wiecznych Niderlandów – czasu zarazy, wojen i podbojów. Spektakl opowiada o rywalizacji malarzy Hansa Memlinga i Hugo van der Gonesa, których dzieła i losy odsłaniają lęki i obsesje ówczesnej Europy. Wariacja sceniczna Agaty Dudy Gracz wokół powstania najsłynniejszego gdańskiego obrazu stawia pytania o siłę sztuki, kondycję artysty oraz ludzkie lęki, z którymi od wieków próbujemy radzić sobie poprzez sztukę, religię i… wojnę.
Po spektaklu (ok. godz. 21:00) odbędzie się Dyskusyjny Klub Teatralny – spotkanie z reżyserką Agatą Dudą Gracz, prof. Beatą Możejko (Centrum Badań Memlingowskich UG) oraz zespołem aktorskim, przygotowane we współpracy z Uniwersytetem Gdańskim. Rozmowę poprowadzą Małgorzata Woźniak (UG) i Monika Mioduszewska (Teatr Wybrzeże). Wstęp wolny.

The Between.Pomiędzy Research Group is pleased to invite employees of the University of Gdańsk to attend Memling: The Story of the End of the World, directed by Agata Duda Gracz, presented as part of the Between.Pomiędzy Festival of Literature and Theatre 2026.

The production transports the audience to the 15th-century Netherlands—a time of plague, war, and unrest. It tells the story of the rivalry between painters Hans Memling and Hugo van der Goes, whose works and lives reveal the fears and obsessions of their time. Agata Duda Gracz’s stage interpretation, centred on the creation of Gdańsk’s most famous painting, raises questions about the power of art, the condition of the artist, and the human fears we have long sought to confront through art, religion, and… war.
After the performance (approx. 21:00), a Theatre Discussion Club will take place, featuring director Agata Duda Gracz, Prof. Beata Możejko (Memling Research Centre, University of Gdańsk), and members of the cast. The discussion will be moderated by Małgorzata Woźniak (University of Gdańsk) and Monika Mioduszewska (Teatr Wybrzeże). Admission is free.
